As part of Project Pakati's goal to showcase the diversity and wealth of the work being done by young people across Africa, the Youth Organisations Directory profiles and aggregates African non-profits on a single, searchable platform. This makes it easy and accessible for donors, funders, and a greater pan-African audience to find these organisations. There are many young African leaders who have started organisations catering to the African youth market - the largest demographic segment on the continent - and one that is underserved. AFLI's pan-African directory seeks to help these organisations, by making it easier for them to find each other to partner and network.
The directory being developed is fully searchable, by country, area of need or expertise, and it will, over time, become a valuable resource for grant-givers, the organisations themselves, and people seeking assistance. In the interests of building a comprehensive and continentally-representative directory, the African Leadership’s Project Pakati launched a 60 Day Challenge on its social media platforms, from March – May 2020.
The challenge called for young people to encourage the youth-led and youth-serving organisations they knew of in their communities and countries to register on the platform. The three people who profiled the most organisations were eligible for cash prizes. The enthusiasm was overwhelming! From across the continent, young people raised their hands and submitted entries of incredible young people serving their communities. During the challenge, more than 300 additional organisations across the continent were registered.
Project Pakati would like to thank everybody that participated in the 60-Day Challenge and congratulate our top three candidates, who were awarded prizes. In first place was Nanaki Sesana, a Change Lead from South Africa; in second, Udeme Simon Udoh, a Change Maker from Nigeria; and third was Kisubi Denis, a Change Maker from Uganda.
It is still possible for eligible organisations not yet listed who wish to add their profiles to the directory to register themselves. All they need to to is complete the form.
