2017 Tutu Fellow Mitoha Ondo’o Ayekaba has been appointed Equitorial Guinea's Minister of Health. He previously had served as the Vice Minister of Health and Social Welfare in Equatorial Guinea, a position to which he was appointed in 2018. The Ministry of Health and Social Welfare (MINSABS) in Equatorial Guinea works to sustain public health and promote healthy living for the Republic's population.

As a freshly-appointed minister, he had to deal with an outbreak an unknown illness causing hemorrhagic fever that killed at least eight people.  The ministry quarantined more than 200 people and restricted movement around two villages.  Most of the people affected - and who were quarantined - had been to a funeral.  He also played a key role as vice minister during the COVID pandemic.

Mitoha's education includes degrees in business management, international economics, as well as public policy.  Other achievements include leading FDA-approved clinical trials to eradicate malaria, a major scourge in Africa and a leading cause of death. His work has been recognized and published in the American Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene.

MINSABS seeks to provide access to quality healthcare services. Some of those services include primary health care, National Health Information Systems (NHIS), laboratory, blood banks, and research. They also provide health education, social mobilization, and nursing.
